About NotePad and WordPad

1. NotePad :
Notepad is a basic text editor that you can use to create simple documents. The most common use for Notepad is to view or edit text (.TXT) files, but it is also used to create source code files such as the HTML for Web pages. When you open a text file, you may see just one line for each paragraph. To show all the text on the screen. Select Format from the Menu bar and click Word Wrap. The entry is ticked to show that World Wrap is active.

To create a log file using Notepad :
* On the first line of a NotePad document, type the value LOG at the left margin. Use uppercase and include the stop, then save the document. Every time you open this document, NotePad will append the current time and date (from the PC clock) to the end of the document.

2. WordPad :

WordPad provides word processing functions that are quite suitable for letters and smaller documents. Output is saved in the RTF format which is compatible with the Microsoft Word formats, though not all Word features are supported.

To check the settings for the document :
You can choose file formats and specify seperate options for each file type. The types supported include Word (.DOC); Write (.WRI), the predecessor to WordPad; the plain, text (.TXT) format; and the Embedded Unicode format. When you save the file as text, any formatting specified is discarded. You can cut and paste Paint pictures into WordPad documents. You can also insert Paint images and many other applications data types as objects.

To add an object :
* Select Insert, Object, and choose the Create New type.
* Or click Create from file, and enter the file name and type.
* Select Display As Icon, or add the image itself.
* You can add the data file into the document, or just specify a link (as long as the source file remains accessible).
