Application Software :

Application Software is a set of program that are used to perform some specific task, such as word processing, drawing figures, maintaining data base etc., Some of the application software are explained below.

1. Word Processing Programs :

Word processing software allows our computer to be used like an advanced typewriter. We can type and print any letter or report, and then easily change words or move blocks of text around.

All these tasks are possible Wordstar, WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, StarWriter etc.

2. SpreadSheet Programs :

Those who need to do a lot of calculation or financial planning on the computer, often use a spreadsheet program. A spreadsheet is made up of cells which can number in thousands, and arranged in a grid.

Mostly spreadsheet programs also include charting features with tools that allow you to plot the values stored in rows and columns as a graph or chat. The mostly used spreadsheet program is Microsoft Excel, Lotus 1-2-3 is another spreadsheet program.

3. Database Programs :

While word processing and spreadsheet programs are helpful in presenting and manipulating information, Database programs are useful for storing, sorting and retrieving data, if we have many records of invoices or orders, we can manage them better by using a database program. Database software lets us enter new information, search through the data you have already stored, or print out records. Oracle, FoxPro and MS-Access are some of the database programs.

4. Graphics :

The graphics may refer to any sketch, drawing special artwork or other material to pictorically depict an object or a process or otherwise convey information as a supplement to or instead of written descriptions. 

The graphics has referred to enginnering drawing of biulding bridges, machine parts etc and scientific drawing such x-y curves, network and process flowchart. In recent decades, graphics has ventured into industrial design, advertising and other artistic endeavours.

5. Personal Assistance Package :

Personal assistance package is to use personal computers for storing and retrieving their personal information, planning, managing their schedules, contacts, finances and inventory of important items.
