My town is situated in midst of many villages. The surrounding area is very productive. The farmers are hard working. They, are therefore, prosperous. The market of my town has become very important. there is no other grain market in this area which has as brisk business as this market.
The market itself is in the center of the town. All important bazaars of the town lead to this market. It has square shape. There is a spacious compound in the middle of the shops. There are shops on the four sides of the big square. The main shopkeepers are agents. Their trade is chiefly export and imports of grains. there are a few pretty shops which satisfy the daily needs of the people who visit the market.
The market scene in my town is very interesting. It is a center of attraction for both buyers and sellers. I always find a big crowd there. Businessmen come from far and near. They transact business. The market is always crowded with the produce of the season such as grain, cotton, oil seeds, gurh and vegetables. The products are put in the market in a very attractive manner before the shops of agents.
The merchants make their purchases moving in groups. they bid in a particular fashion. Sometimes they fix the rate of the commodity by the indication of their hands under the clothes. The sale of commodities takes place one in the day. In the evening all commodities are weighed, packed in jute bags and sent to the places where there is a demand for them. The country carts, horses and donkeys leave with their masters to the villages. Nearly all the shops have telephones. The shopkeepers get daily advice about the various markets through post or the phone.
The market of my town is a very noisy place. Pretty hawkers also go about in the market. They sell their articles by shouting their names at the top of their voice. One can meet all sorts of people there. There is joy and laughter on all sides. Friends offer warm welcome to one another. People discuss politics in the light of their business.
The market of my town is not like the market of olden days. It is no dirty. It is swept clean every day. there is no mud and bad smell. In the center of the market there is a well. A though is attached to it. The animals drink water at though. there are public baths for the labors. In short, out town-market is worth a visit.
